Grandma and Grandpa Russell came to visit over the Easter weekend. One of the highlights was attending an Easter service at the National Cathedral. The Cathedral was beautifully decorated with flowers. The procession, the organ music, and the chiming of the bells were particularly impressive.
Unfortunately our lens had a smudge on it for this group photo.
Afterwards we went to brunch and were pleased to see that the Easter Bunny was making an appearance. Louis was fascinated with the Easter Bunny, mostly from a distance.
The next day was much warmer so we walked around the Tidal Basin. We saw the new Martin Luther King Jr. monument as well as the Jefferson Memorial and FDR Memorial.
Only a few cherry blossoms were in bloom…
but you can imagine what it might look like a week later.
All that walking (more accurately: being carried or riding in a stroller) made Louis hungry for some ice cream!
In the afternoon we relaxed in the atrium of the Portrait Gallery, one of the most tranquil indoor places in D.C.(and one of Matt’s favorite places to get a snack). This time we came prepared with dry shoes and socks for Louis so he could play in the “fountain”.
In the last couple photos you can see a toy car in Louis’s hand. This was an Easter gift from Grandma and Grandpa which proved to be a huge hit. Louis is currently fascinated with trucks, cars and buses. He has a toy car in his hand nearly every waking moment, including at meal times. Louis’s favorite word right now is “truck”, which he says emphatically as “trah”.
